Looking after our members

Monnow’s swimming club will ensure that:

  • The welfare of the children and young people attending the club is paramount and will provide opportunities for them to take part in swimming safely.
  • Promote and respect the rights, wishes and feelings of the children and young people attending the club.
  • Ensure that all children and young people who are members of the club have the right to protection from abuse.
  •  Support its members, coaches and volunteers to follow best practice in relation to protecting children and young people and follow Swim Wales child safeguarding procedures.
  • Ensure that all staff working in the club has a responsibility to report concerns to the child welfare officer.
  • We have safe recruitment practices for all coaches and volunteers including full and up to date Criminal Record Bureau checks.
  • All members will have child safeguarding training and be vigilant to the signs of abuse.
  • All members adopt a safe caring approach.
  • All incidents are recorded using “MyConcern” which is a GDPR compliant online platform introduced to all Swim Wales affiliated organisations in April 2021.

Good Practice means:

  • Always putting the welfare of each young person first.
  • Treating all children and young people equally with respect and dignity.
  • Maintaining a safe environment in which all children and young people can enjoy their swimming.
  • Keeping up to date with training and any changes to procedures.
  • Involving children and young people wherever appropriate in decisions.
  • Being an excellent role model.
  • Recognising the developmental needs and capacity of all young people attending the club.
  • Keeping a written record of all incidents using “MyConcern”, in line with Swim Wales policy and practice.
  • Regularly reviewing and evaluating these child protection guidelines.
