Monmouthshire Challenge 2013 – October

On 12th October, Monnow hosted the second annual Monmouthshire Challenge, a friendly gala involving clubs from each of the four Monmouthshire towns – Monmouth, Chepstow, Caldicot and Abergavenny. The quickfire competition included boys’ and girls’ races in all four strokes over distances from 25m to 100m, plus relays. Hoping to repeat last year’s victory, Monnow swimmers started well and were neck and neck with Chepstow for the first few races. However, a very strong Chepstow team pulled away and eventually won the match with 226 points to Monnow’s 199, followed by Caldicot on 128 and Abergavenny on 113.

All Monnow swimmers performed exceptionally well, almost without exception swimming much faster than at the Club Championships the previous week. Eight swimmers won individual races. Laura and Ben did particularly well, each winning three races in the 9 and Under age group, and Joe triumphed twice in the 15 and Unders. The youngest and oldest boys also won all their relays. The full results can be viewed in the Results section of the website.
