Gloucester City Swimming Club July Open

During the weekend of 14/15 July, over450 swimmers took part in the July Open Level 3 Meet from 25 clubs across the UK. The Monnow team of five swimmers took part in eighteen races, winning an impressive 8 medals and achieving 12 Personal Best times.

Alice (13) had an outstanding meet, racing in seven events, recording 5 personal best times and winning 2 silvers and a bronze. Not to be outdone, her brother Joe (15) matched her medal tally, recording 3 PBs out of four events.
Ben (10) smashed his PB in the 200m backstroke by nearly 4 seconds earning a highly-coveted “speeding ticket” for swimming faster than the upper cut-off time. Tom (14) swam strongly in his three races, knocking 5 seconds off his previous best times in two events.
After a cautious start, Lucy (10) stormed through in the final length of the 200m IM to take the silver medal and a PB. She also took bronze in the 100m freestyle.

The meet took place on the hottest weekend of the year so far, making the GL1 leisure centre feel like a sauna, especially for the long-suffering spectators who braved the conditions to support the Monnow team.
