To celebrate the 2012 London Olympics, Monnow Swimming Club has launched a club challenge. The objective is for the club as a whole to swim 2012km before the end of the Olympics on 12th August. 2012km equates to 80,480 lengths of a 25m pool.
The challenge started Sunday 20th May. Each club member will be keeping a record of how many lengths they swim each week and this will be logged on charts held by the coaches at HMSG or MSSC.
The coaches and the committee will be tracking progress and posting regular updates on the Monnow Swimming Club website. There will be Olympic gifts for all participants who swim at least 500 lengths (250 for Group 5 swimmers) and prizes for the swimmers achieving the most lengths in each training squad.
Fiona, The Club Treasurer came up with this idea and thought it would be an excellent way to fire up the swimmers and get them thinking about the Olympics.
